Coyne Airways Rises to 93rd in Cargo Rankings

01 OCTOBER 2012

Coyne Airways has risen two places to 93rd in the Airline Business Cargo Rankings, which measures carriers based on 2011 Revenue Tonne Kilometres (RTKs).  Coyne’s RTKs were up almost 20% in 2011 to 181 million, thanks mainly to improved frequencies and an up gauge of equipment into Afghanistan, together with the growth of export cargo from Afghanistan.

Commenting on the figures, Coyne Airways CEO Larry Coyne said “the strong growth in RTKs in 2011 demonstrates our commitment to providing services to fill a market niche to meet the needs of the freight forwarding community, despite a very challenging operating environment.  As our existing markets mature we are looking at new markets in order to continue our steady growth in future years.”

The rankings are published annually by Airline Business magazine and has seen Coyne Airways feature in the top 100 for the past six years, despite being a small cargo airline focusing on niche destinations.  Coyne’s cargo revenue was also up compared with 2010 to $63 million.  FedEx continues its long-held number one position in the rankings.
